Cataract Co-Management

Dr. Perla Bermudez, O.D. co-manages cataract surgery with several ophthalmologist in the El Paso and Midland areas.

Cataract Surgery is usually an out-patient procedure that takes an hour or less to perform. During cataract surgery the cloudy lens is removed and a clear artificial lens (IOL) is usually implanted. An IOL is made of acrylic, plastic, or silicone. You won't be able to see or feel the lens. The lens requires no care and becomes a permanent part of your eye.

After cataract surgery, expect your vision to begin improving within a few days. Your vision may be blurry at first as your eye heals and adjusts.

You'll usually see Dr. Bermudez, O.D. a week after your cataract surgery and then again after about a month to monitor eye healing.

It's normal to feel itching and discomfort for a couple of days after cataract surgery. Avoid rubbing or pushing on your eye. Often, complete healing occurs within eight weeks.

Most people need glasses, at least some of the time, after cataract surgery. Dr. Bermudez, O.D. will let you know when your eyes have healed enough for you to get a final prescription for eye glasses.
